Understanding Education Otherwise Than At/In School (EOTA/IS)
Personalised educational provision designed around individual needs, wellbeing and positive outcomes.
EOTAS/EOTIS offers a flexible, person-centred alternative for children and young people who cannot access a school environment. It ensures that learning continues in a way that respects their mental health and developmental stage.
By looking beyond traditional settings, we create educational pathways that focus on engagement and progress. Our approach is built on understanding the specific barriers to learning that your child may be facing.
Working together with families and professionals, we deliver tailored provision that supports EHCP outcomes and helps rebuild a positive relationship with education for every student we support.

What is EOTAS/EOTIS?
Education Otherwise Than At/In School (EOTA/IS) is a formal arrangement where a local authority provides education for a child or young person outside of a traditional school environment. It is designed for those who, for specific and often complex reasons, cannot access education within a school setting, ensuring their right to education is met through a bespoke and supportive package.

School Placement
The traditional route where a child is registered at a mainstream or specialist school and receives their full education on a physical school site with their peers.

EOTAS Provision
A formal, funded alternative for children who cannot attend school. The local authority arranges a bespoke package of support tailored to the individual child's specific wellbeing and SEND needs.

Elective Home Education
A parental choice to take full responsibility for a child’s education. Unlike EOTAS, this is not a provision for those who cannot attend school, but a personal preference for home-based learning.
Who Might Benefit From EOTAS?
Autism
For children whose neurodivergent profile requires a highly tailored approach.
Severe Anxiety
For children whose anxiety makes school attendance very difficult.
EBSA
Supporting those experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance.
Complex SEND
For learners with multiple or interconnected special educational needs.
Health-Related Needs
When physical or mental health needs prevent consistent school attendance.
Placement Breakdown
Reassuring support when a previous educational setting is no longer suitable.
Educational Reintegration
A soft pathway for children needing to re-engage with learning.
SEMH Needs
Supporting social, emotional, and mental health through welfare-led learning.
Every child is unique and EOTAS decisions should always be based upon individual circumstances.
How We Support Families
Navigating the transition to EOTAS can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to do it alone. Our headteacher-led approach ensures that your family is supported at every stage, providing clarity, empathy, and specialist knowledge to secure the right educational provision for your child.
We act as a professional bridge between home, local authorities, and specialist providers. By focusing on your child's well-being and long-term educational goals, we help build a sustainable pathway that restores confidence in learning and achieves positive outcomes.
